Kit Benzel, Auxiliary member of VFW Post 2505, spoke about the service and sacrifices of members of the 121st Air Refueling Wing of the Ohio National Guard, naming Capt. Seth Koval, Capt. Curtis Angst and Master Sgt. Tyler Simmons as fallen airmen the post is honoring. Benzel said the post hopes to build a facility and that an application for support had been submitted to Senator Moreno's office; she told commissioners the post had not yet set an overall fundraising goal. Col. Lance Kollstedt and Lt. Col. Troy Smith attended and spoke briefly about the fallen airmen and their families.
Commissioner Jeff Fix recognized two Eagle Scouts from Troop 165, presenting certificates to acknowledge their achievements. During public comment, Beth Cottrell of Amanda thanked the commissioners for a previously passed exclusionary zone resolution; another resident, Ervin Dumm, expressed appreciation that the commission listens to Amanda residents.
The community items were part of a meeting that also included departmental updates and the board’s subsequent voting session. The board thanked the Amanda‑Clearcreek School District for hosting the meeting and noted upcoming community events including a Workforce Center ribbon cutting.
