For youth flag football, Neighborhood Sports — the town’s incumbent provider since July 2021 — was the only bidder and the four‑person RFP review committee (two Parks Board members plus two staff) unanimously recommended keeping Neighborhood Sports as the contracted provider. Judson corrected a caption date during the meeting: the intended contract period is July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2031.
Neighborhood Sports president David Enderleede described safety protocols for NFL Flag play, including mandatory mouthguards, field directors and on‑site referees, and a policy requiring physician clearance after head/contact injuries. Board members asked about injury monitoring, field conditions, and whether the organization would leverage broader opportunities such as the Olympics; Enderleede said the organization attends national operator summits and plans to promote flag football growth among girls.
On a separate RFP for youth tackle football, staff recommended the Flower Mound Youth Football Academy (FMYFA). FMYFA reported more than 500 registrations since launching programming in 2024; its president, Robbie Waters, described a pathway for third‑through‑sixth graders (with second graders allowed to play up) and a spring‑football program that gives parents and players a chance to sample tackle before committing for the fall. Board members discussed how town field access will be managed to avoid conflict between contracted providers and how players might transition between flag and tackle programs.
Both recommendations were moved and passed unanimously. The board noted staff will finalize contract language, confirm the corrected start date for Neighborhood Sports (07/01/2026–06/30/2031) and coordinate field schedules so contracted providers do not conflict on town fields.
