Macedonia council approves insurance renewal, stormwater code update, pool resurfacing and ball-field netting

Mayor Nick Molnar introduced the insurance renewal, saying the one-year contract with Ohio Plan Risk Management Inc. was the city’s insurance renewal and that staff had gone back through policy schedules to verify equipment listings and coverages. “We are now confident that everything is perfect and in order,” the mayor said during the discussion on the renewal.
Director Giladi explained Ordinance 24 is intended to add required EPA language and clarify which discharges are permitted (for example, pool drains, street-cleaning runoff and firefighting flows) and the procedure for notifying the EPA and requiring property owners to correct illicit sanitary connections to the storm system. “We are simply adding some verbiage to our stormwater code to remain in compliance with EPA rules,” Giladi said.
Director Eckendorf described the recreation-center pool contract (Ordinance 25) as resurfacing for both the lap pool and the diving well to be completed during the facility’s annual shutdown; staff reported the low bid came in about $30,000 under the estimate. Eckendorf also presented Ordinance 26, a contract with Veterans Fence for netting above the fences on all four Longwood Park ball fields to improve spectator safety, noting the project had been budgeted and discussed by the Parks & Rec Commission for years.
Each ordinance was moved and seconded and carried by voice vote.
