The Beaumont Unified School District used the Nov. 18 meeting to highlight student achievements across the district and to introduce Officer McGrath as the district’s new school resource officer.
Student board member Petra Rathfelder summarized secondary‑site accomplishments, including Mountain View Middle School’s redesignation as a California and National School to Watch and San Gorgonio Middle School’s similar recognition. She described student participation in community service, college visits, the Amazing Shake competition (with roughly 190 students from Mountain View and about 250 students participating districtwide at one event), and named student and staff recognitions.
In the superintendent’s report, district leaders reviewed calendar dates for late November and December, including a student-of-the-month celebration, Shrek the Musical performances in early December, and the annual organizational board meeting set for Dec. 9. The superintendent also noted a city groundbreaking for a new shopping center that drew district participation.
The superintendent introduced Officer McGrath as the district’s new school resource officer. The introduction said McGrath has served as a police officer since 2015 with experience at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the Upland Police Department, and that he joined the Beaumont Police Department in 2022. The district noted McGrath serves district schools and alternative‑education programs and that two of his children are enrolled in Beaumont Unified; his wife, Giselle McGrath, works for the district.
Officer McGrath addressed the board briefly: “As you heard, I just got assigned here about three weeks ago. I'm looking forward to the challenges…I hope I can be a seamless integration to your teams.” Trustees welcomed him on behalf of the district.
The district plans standard follow-up as the SRO integrates into campus safety and student-support activities and will share scheduling details through school administration.
