District presents IAR/ISA/ACCESS results; schools updating plans for math and writing

Cathy Park, the districtDirector of Assessment and Accountability, presented the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR), Illinois Science Assessment (ISA), and ACCESS (for English learners) results to the board on Dec. 18.
Park explained that the IAR and ISA adopted a new four-level proficiency scale to align more closely with college-and-career-readiness indicators. Park said schools are adjusting action plans to emphasize mathematical discourse and writing instruction; a Science Subject Area Committee is reviewing curriculum as part of efforts to strengthen science performance.
On ACCESS, Park noted that exit rates are highest in fourth and fifth grades and decline in middle school as assessments increase in difficulty. Buildings have established targeted action plans and goals to support English learner students; Park linked ACCESS growth monitoring to the Seal of Biliteracy pathway in high school.
The board received the presentation and the minutes record that assessment results inform the district strategic plan scorecard and school-level action planning.
