The Brainerd City Finance Committee on April 6 accepted the retirement notice of business office supervisor Jana Purnulla and approved starting an external hiring process so a new employee can overlap with Purnulla before her last working day.
"Jana Purnulla, our business office supervisor recently submitted her retirement notice, with her last working day being August 7," said Tony Wilkins, city finance director. Wilkins told the committee Purnulla has been with the utility for 32 years and staff updated the job description included in the meeting packet.
Committee members discussed whether to seek an internal or external candidate; staff recommended an external search to ensure at least a month of overlap between the outgoing and incoming employees. A member moved to approve the retirement, the updated job description and authorization to conduct an external search; another member seconded the motion. Chair Gabe Johnson called for the vote and the motion carried.
The decision authorizes staff to post the revised position and begin recruiting. The committee did not record a detailed vote tally in the meeting audio. The committee moved on to its next agenda item following the vote.
