California Senate proclaims Architecture Week, honors state's first female state architect

The California State Senate unanimously adopted Senate Concurrent Resolution 138 on the floor, declaring Architecture Week and recognizing the contributions of architects to climate resilience, energy efficiency and wildfire safety.

Majority Leader (name not specified) presented the resolution, saying, “California's architects are national leaders in climate resilience, in energy efficiency, wildfire safety, and innovative housing solutions,” and urged senators to support the measure. The leader also noted that women comprise roughly 17% of licensed architects in the United States and introduced Ida Clair/Claire as California's first female state architect.

The measure drew no recorded opposition; the secretary announced the roll call with 32 ayes and zero no votes and the presiding officer declared the resolution adopted. The recognition included the presence of architects from the American Institute of Architects and the California Architectural Foundation who attended the floor ceremony.

The resolution formally recognizes the profession's role in advancing accessibility and sustainable design and encourages efforts to recruit a more diverse next generation of architects. Senators invited the honored guests to the floor for a group photograph following the vote.
