Yuma County proclaims Military Child Month, Library Week and Fair Housing Month; recognizes U‑LEAD graduates and employee nominees

At its April 6 meeting the Yuma County Board of Supervisors issued proclamations recognizing April 2026 as Month of the Military Child and Fair Housing Month, and April 19–25 as Library Week in Yuma County. County and community representatives accepted the proclamations and described upcoming events and services.
Candace Brown, who identified herself as a school liaison officer with Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, thanked the board for supporting military‑connected students and noted April 24 as Purple Up Day. Library Director Ashley Jones told the board the Library District will conduct a community survey, is opening a sensory space, and has secured a grant to bring an agriculture exhibit to Yuma County later in the year. Jones said the library is revamping story time to focus on early literacy.
Human Resources training supervisor Nayeli Flores presented graduates of the county’s Leadership Empowerment and Development (U‑LEAD) program; two graduates—Craig Sargent (public‑works) and Maria Claudia Herrera (Walton Justice Court)—briefly described professional growth from the program and thanked mentors. The board recognized nominees for county employee awards and noted winners will be announced at the county’s April 15 ceremony at the historic Yuma Theater.
The proclamations and recognitions were ceremonial (no legal action required) and the board posed for photographs following the readings.
