YAVAPAI COUNTY — The Yavapai County Board of Supervisors on April 1 adopted a proclamation recognizing April as CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteer Week and heard testimony from juvenile court officials and volunteers.
Jamie Rush introduced the proclamation; Tara Newman, director of juvenile court services, thanked volunteers and highlighted that Judge Young (dependency judge) was watching online. Amber Martin, the county dependency court manager, provided program history and county figures, citing more than 260 children in the dependency system countywide in the last fiscal year and saying 86 CASA volunteers advocated for 111 children while donating 1,775 hours and driving 80,331 miles.
Volunteer Greg Byram shared a multi-year case in which sustained advocacy helped siblings stay connected and secure stable outcomes, including adoptions and the oldest child graduating high school and finding employment. Board members thanked volunteers and emphasized the need for continued support and recruitment.
The board approved the proclamation by unanimous roll call.
