YAVAPAI COUNTY — The Yavapai County Board of Supervisors approved two Public Works purchases on April 1: four Caterpillar motor graders and a Caterpillar backhoe loader under an Omnia Partners contract for $1,776,820.87, and a John Deere tractor with Diamond Mowers attachment for $241,513.91 under a Sourcewell contract.
Roger McCormick, director of public works, told the board the motor grader and backhoe purchase — with four trade-ins — would retail for about $3.3 million but is available for $1,776,820.87 through contract discounts and trade-ins. He said that fiscal-year budget for the purchase was $1,889,000, so this transaction is within the approved budget and represents an estimated savings versus retail.
On the tractor and mower attachment, McCormick said the county had budgeted $180,000 but the contracted price is $241,513.91, an overage of about $61,000. He described the boom-mount mowing system as necessary for safely mowing behind guardrails and improving operator safety; a supervisor welcomed the enclosed cab feature as a health and safety improvement.
Both purchases were approved unanimously by roll call. McCormick said the purchases use competitively solicited contract vehicles and are part of the department’s approved budget for the fiscal year.
