Board approves Sedona airport fire‑suppression water project after staff outlines loan and bid savings
Summary
The board concurred with the Sedona Oak Creek Airport Authority to proceed with a phased fire-suppression water system including a standby generator and ~250,000–340,000 gallon storage; staff noted a $1,665,000 WIFA loan award and construction bids that came in below design estimates.

Deputy County Manager Martin Brennan and Ed Rose, airport manager for the Sedona Airport, briefed the Board of Supervisors on a proposed fire-suppression water infrastructure project for the Sedona Oak Creek Airport. Brennan said the airport authority requested county concurrence because the airport is county‑owned and significant capital improvements require Board approval under the master lease agreement.
Ed Rose summarized the project’s elements — design and installation of a standby generator for the water‑pump system, and a large fire‑suppression water storage tank and distribution plumbing (engineering documents referenced both 250,000 and a 340,000‑gallon design). Rose said the authority secured a $1,665,000 low‑cost loan from the Water Infrastructure Finance Authority (WIFA) in 2025 and that construction bids came in favorably below estimates.
Board members noted the airport’s economic role for Sedona and the county; Vice Chair Cech and other supervisors commended the authority’s planning. No county appropriation was reported for operations; staff noted county contributions are in services such as engineering and legal support. Supervisor moved to approve the action item; the motion passed unanimously.
