Jefferson County approves firefighter hires, promotions and an administrative appointment

At the Aug. 21 meeting the Jefferson County Commission approved several personnel actions affecting emergency services, information technology and county representation.
Chief Human Resource Officer Jessica James presented hiring recommendations. Commissioner Steve Stolipher moved to approve the hiring of Charles Lopp as a full‑time firefighter/paramedic I (Step 10) at a starting rate of $32.60 per hour (pending background check and drug screening), William Jones as full‑time firefighter/EMT I (Step 8) at $24.71 per hour, Megan Fox as full‑time firefighter/EMT I (Step 0) at $21.27 per hour, and Madison Chambers as full‑time firefighter/EMT I (Step 0) at $21.27 per hour. The minutes record that, upon successful completion of introductory periods, each hire will move to the indicated step rate increase. The motion to approve the HR items was approved unanimously.
The commission approved the promotion of Jessica Gormont to GIS Lead/CAD Administrator (Grade VII), full‑time, 80‑hour position with a salary of $72,225.60 effective Aug. 10, 2025; the minutes note her salary will increase to $82,225.60 after SAA program completion. The commission also approved the temporary assignment of Lori Brown as Deputy Director of Emergency Communications effective Aug. 18 with an adjusted Grade 8 base salary of $82,597 per county administrative policy 212.
Commission President Pasha Majdi moved to appoint Commissioner Mike Mood as the commission liaison to the Charles Town Utility Board, with Commissioner Jack Hefestay as alternate; the motion was approved unanimously. No public objections are recorded in the minutes.
