Commissioners approve Warner Construction use of Deuel County fairgrounds for Highway 30 asphalt site

Layne Frerichs of Warner Construction told the board the company needs approximately 5 to 6 acres, will install DEQ barriers where required, and expects the work to take 4–6 weeks. The contractor said work would start in May, be completed by the end of July and that the site would be cleared before fair time. The minutes state that Frerichs will work with Assistant Highway Superintendent Kristian Fusilier to draw up a contract.
Commissioners William Klingman and Jim Reichman voted to approve Warner Construction’s request; Commissioner Timm was absent. The action authorizes county staff to finalize a contract governing use of the grounds; the minutes do not record contract terms such as indemnification, fees, restoration standards, or DEQ approvals.
The approval allows the contractor to stage asphalt operations within the fairgrounds footprint for the Highway 30 project, subject to a future contract.
