Summary
The Village of Depew Board of Trustees unanimously adopted the Village of Lancaster and Village of Depew comprehensive plan update (March 2026) after the board noted public engagement, referral to Erie County under General Municipal Law §239-m and a negative SEQRA declaration.
The Village of Depew Board of Trustees voted unanimously Tuesday to adopt the Village of Lancaster and Village of Depew comprehensive plan update, the board said during its April 13 meeting.
The motion to adopt the March 2026 plan, introduced by a trustee and seconded by another trustee, noted roughly 18 months of work, advisory-committee input, coordination with regional agencies and a public hearing held Nov. 25, 2025. The board also stated it had issued a negative SEQRA declaration and referred the plan to Erie County under General Municipal Law §239-m before taking its vote.
Trustee (speaker 8) read the resolution’s findings during the meeting, saying the update reflected “extensive public engagement, advisory committee input and coordination with regional agencies.” The motion was seconded by Trustee (speaker 7) and approved on a roll-call vote with all members present voting yes. Mayor Kevin J. Peterson presided over the vote.
Under the adopted resolution, the plan will serve as a guide for future land use, policy and capital investment decisions and a copy is to be filed in the office of the village clerk, the board said. Trustees asked that printed copies be made available in the clerk’s office and that a link be posted on the village website.
The plan’s adoption follows a multi-jurisdictional planning effort with Lancaster and deference to state review processes; the board noted the plan will now be the village’s first full comprehensive plan that covers all of Depew, whereas previous planning had included only portions of the village. The board did not discuss specific zoning changes at length during the vote; further implementation steps, timelines and any ordinance updates were not specified at the meeting.
