Parks manager outlines options for Veterans Ice Arena compressors, new hires and budget timing

Parks Manager Josh briefed the commission March 17 on facility repairs, staffing and budget work.
Regarding Veterans Ice Arena, Josh said staff have three compressor options that remain feasible after a passed pressure test: rebuild an existing compressor, install new compressors or use a portable compressor. He said the options vary substantially in cost and staff are collecting estimates.
On staffing, Josh announced Ariel Clinthorne — long associated with the liveries — has been promoted to recreation coordinator for deliveries and started in the role recently. The department is finalizing a hire to replace the golf supervisor position vacated by Doug Kelly and is conducting phone screens for a recreation coordinator focused on senior programming funded by the Washtenaw County older persons millage. The department plans to post a recreation coordinator focused on aquatics and splash-pad operations.
Josh said the city is in the second year of a two-year budget cycle and that staff will provide earlier budget materials in April to describe impacts for the coming year.
