Egg Harbor Township School District outlines AI policy, staff training and tools for students

The Egg Harbor Township School District described its work to establish an artificial-intelligence policy and to train staff on classroom uses of AI during a strategic-planning meeting.
Moderator (S1) told the meeting that the district formed an innovation team after attending national conferences and that "we established policy. Policy on our artificial intelligence. You can look on our website." The facilitator said the district's policy has been used as a model for other districts.
Presenter (S3) outlined the specific tools the team vetted. "This is currently only available for staff, but in the pipeline, their version of this will eventually become available for students," S3 said of NotebookLM, adding that the district has also adopted Brisk (a Google Chrome extension), Canva and Adobe Express. S3 said the district's Google-based LLM (Gemini) is "within the Google domain" and that students in grades 8'12 now have access in a controlled environment.
Speakers emphasized training and classroom strategy. "Our teachers have to be able to detect that... there's other tools where teachers can detect that's that's the robot," the Moderator said, and presenters urged teachers to shift lesson plans so students use AI outputs as drafts to be evaluated and compared to class knowledge.
The meeting framed next steps as curricular: presenters said members of the innovation team will help design curriculum and activities that incorporate AI and that the district will coordinate with a state-level task force. No formal policy vote occurred at the meeting; presenters said the policy is already posted on the district website and that training and curriculum-integration work will continue.
The district said it will present follow-up materials to the strategic-planning committee and expects to continue work on AI integration in coming months.
