City approves Gallup Park change order for patching and pathway repairs; not a full repave

City staff told the Parks Advisory Commission March 17 that a change order has been added to an existing Bicentennial paving contract to patch larger trouble spots on Gallup Park Road and to renovate a nearby pathway.
Hillary, who briefed the commission, said staff initially struggled to attract contractors for a small-scope paving patch, so they approached an asphalt contractor already doing work at Bicentennial Park and added Gallup Park work by change order. "It's still patching of larger areas, attempting to deal with some trapped water, but it's not a full repaving at this time," she said.
Hillary said city council approved the change order at its most recent meeting. Work is expected to begin in late April once road load limits related to frost laws are lifted and to be complete by early summer. Commissioners thanked staff and noted improvements should make the route safer and easier for cyclists and families.
The work is described as a stopgap to extend the life of the surface until a larger repaving can be planned and funded.
