At the Aug. 20 Beaumont Unified Board meeting, Jen Ellis identified herself and placed on the public record an appeal of an earlier workplace-investigation finding.
Ellis said she filed a complaint on Feb. 28, 2024 alleging harassment, "****** harassment," misconduct and fraternization. She said the district acknowledged the complaint in writing on May 13, 2024 and that a Title IX investigation is now underway. "I am here to place on public record that I am appealing these findings," Ellis said, adding she wants a thorough investigation and for the entire business department, not only certain administrators, to be included in any review.
Ellis said she received findings from the first investigation on Aug. 10 and that the district had previously acknowledged the complaint in a letter dated March 15. She told the board she believes the district failed to follow its uniform complaint process and that she has been placed on paid administrative leave while issues are resolved. "I am again asking for a thorough investigation be conducted into the allegations made on 02/28/2024," Ellis said.
Board members did not take a public vote on personnel or investigatory actions during the meeting; Ellis said she is pursuing an appeal of the findings and asked that communications about her leave and the investigations be provided in writing.
The board's public materials and remarks at the meeting did not include additional findings, remedies or timelines for resolution; the district said during the meeting that a Title IX process is underway.
