Juvenile detention facility review set; circuit reports full staffing and grant reapplications

Circuit leadership announced at the March 11, 2026 meeting that the juvenile detention facility will receive a three‑day biannual review next week by the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts; the review will include interviews of residents, staff and judges and will produce a public report, the Chair said.
"They'll be coming in for three days, reviewing our facility, interviewing residents, interviewing staff, interviewing judges," the Chair said, and added that the review report will be public and reviewed with detention leadership and the local judge. The Chair said Judge Ryan will be notified and updated.
On staffing the Chair said all three counties (LaSalle, Bureau and Grundy) have their full contingent of probation officers and clerical staff, though the circuit remains short one problem‑solving court officer position in LaSalle County; the Chair said current program enrollment allows the circuit to manage for now.
Officials also discussed pending grant activity: the juvenile redeploy grant and other problem‑solving court grants require reapplication this spring. The Chair said application materials were received and staff have met with the Youth Service Bureau of Illinois Valley to prepare submissions that must be filed by the end of the month.
The Chair noted possible federal/state funding adjustments and described contingency planning in case grants are reduced. "We would probably be talking about a 10% reduction, possibly, maybe 12," the Chair said, and added that the circuit has contingency plans that could include using probation fees or other measures to cover shortfalls if necessary.
No citizen comments were offered at the meeting. The panel set its next meeting for April 8 at 10:00 a.m. and adjourned.
