Zion council approves budgets, appointments and Nostalgia Days road closure

The Zion City Council on May 7 approved multiple routine items by unanimous votes, including the street and bridge and motor fuel tax budgets for fiscal year 2025, tabulation of bids for cleaning and maintenance services for city hall and police facilities, and a temporary closure of Sheridan Road for Nostalgia Days on June 15.

Director Conway presented the street and bridge and motor fuel tax budgets and noted these are stand‑alone funds that do not affect the general fund; the council approved the budgets as presented. The council also approved the recommended bid tabulation for cleaning and maintenance services and moved forward an authorization to lease property at 1225 27th Street to Martha’s Daycare.

The council reviewed and approved a slate of appointments and reappointments to city boards and commissions, including electrical, fire and police, planning and zoning, police pension, TIF review, and special events commissions. Members noted one vacancy and one appointee who had moved out of the area; staff said they would correct the list and follow up as needed.

For the Nostalgia Days event on June 15, staff requested the temporary road closure of Sheridan Road from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.; the resolution requires the city to assume responsibility and liability for the closure. The council approved the closure by motion (5–0).
