Teton County board raises elected‑officer salaries to state maximums

Teton County commissioners unanimously adopted a resolution April 7 to raise the pay of several elected county officers to the statutory maximums set by reference to circuit court judges.
County Attorney Keith explained the legal foundation from state law and said the county proposes increasing assessor, clerk, clerk of district court, county and prosecuting attorney, sheriff and treasurer salaries from $145,000 to $153,700 — the level tied to circuit court judges — and increasing the county coroner’s salary from $50,000 to $72,500 so it matches county commissioners. "That is what is before you today," County Attorney Keith said while walking through the statutory citations and the timeline for when salary changes must be set.
Keith told the board any increase must be decided before the candidate filing window opens so prospective candidates know the pay that will apply to the office; the board noted the increases would go into effect January 4, 2027. After a motion and second the board recorded the motion as carried unanimously.
