Oklahoma City school board reappoints officers and elects Laurie Bowman as vice chair

The Oklahoma City Public Schools board held its annual reorganization and approved its slate of named officers before selecting a vice chair for the coming year.
Chair called the meeting to order and read the list of officer assignments included in the agenda, including encumbrance clerk, treasurer, assistant treasurer, purchasing agent, board clerk and deputy clerk. A motion to approve the listed officers passed unanimously, the chair announced.
The board then followed the policy-prescribed process to elect a vice chair. Members nominated Jessica Cifuentes and Laurie Bowman. Each nominee had an opportunity to accept and speak; Bowman and Cifuentes addressed the board before ballots were collected and tallied by the deputy board clerk. The clerk read district-by-district votes, and Laurie Bowman was declared vice chair for the coming year.
Board members emphasized that the vice chair role is annual and described responsibilities including performing chair duties in the chair’s absence and mentoring newer members. The votes on both the officer slate and the vice chair were recorded as seven aye and zero nay.
