Summary
Tangipahoa Parish Council voted to grant 30-day extensions for demolition or removal of belongings at two condemned properties — 15122 Waynesboro Road (Ponchatoula) and 17283 East Park Avenue (Hammond) — after owners or representatives requested more time.
The Tangipahoa Parish Council voted April 13 to grant 30-day extensions for two properties scheduled for condemnation to allow owners time to remove belongings or complete demolition.
Code enforcement staff described the properties — a burned single-wide at 17283 East Park Avenue in Hammond and an unoccupied brick home at 15122 Waynesboro Road in Ponchatoula — as posted and presenting a danger to the community. Jerry (code enforcement) said both properties had been processed through building-official review and a ROC meeting and were ready for an owners’ hearing.
Attorney Summer McNair appeared on behalf of heirs to the Waynesboro property and on behalf of the owner of the East Park property, who McNair said is incarcerated and undergoing competency proceedings; McNair requested 30‑day extensions for both cases to allow demolition or removal of items. She said the Waynesboro demolition was scheduled for April 19.
On regular business the council approved a 30‑day extension for 15122 Waynesboro Road on a motion by Ciatek and second by Beal. The council similarly approved a 30‑day extension for 17283 East Park Avenue after a motion by Councilmember Wells and second. Parish officials noted that since 2022 the parish has identified approximately 228 blighted structures and that most (about 93 percent, per staff comments) have been cleaned up by owners after the process started.
Both condemnation items will return to the council at a subsequent meeting for further action if the properties are not remediated within the extension period.
