Landis Elementary tells board new staff hub, calendar and mentorships are improving morale and instruction

Summary
Landis Elementary leaders showed trustees a staff 'Landis Hub' and calendar, described teacher video work for a state Learning Lab, outlined attendance incentives and the Kids Hope mentorship program, and linked the changes to small gains in literacy checkpoints.
Landis Elementary administrators told the Logansport Community Sch Corp board on April 13 that a package of internal changes — a staff calendar, a centralized Landis Hub of links, expanded badge access and teacher‑led instructional teams — has improved staff communication, accountability and classroom instruction.
Presenters described a 12‑person instructional team that worked with an EL expert (Dr. Cavazos) to record model vocabulary lessons; those recordings will be submitted for use in an Indiana Learning Lab to help train other teachers. Landis staff said the videos will carry teacher and building names and could be used beyond Indiana.
Administrators described the Landis Hub as a single place for schedules, links and expectations; the hub plus a shared calendar reduced repeated email traffic and, staff said, made it harder for teachers to say they “didn’t know” about events. The presenters said the calendar is managed by one representative per team to preserve ownership and reduce accidental edits.
Other initiatives named included expanded badge access so teachers can use office copying and laminating equipment outside limited hours, attendance incentives (morning music, a “happy you’re here” wall and prize games), and a Kids Hope mentorship program that pairs church members with students for one hour per week. Presenters reported iRead/iLearn checkpoint gains and cited the 12‑teacher team as a driver of instructional consistency.
Board members congratulated the Landis team and praised improvements in staff morale and student engagement.
