Zion ESD 6 board appoints Jazmine Crump and moves into closed session

The Board of Education of School District No. 6 in Zion appointed Jazmine Crump to fill a vacant board seat and then voted to enter closed session during a special meeting on June 16, 2025.
President Margie Taylor called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. and noted that members Ken Fielding, Jacqueline San Diego and Robert Surano were present; Denise Lear and Netya Perez Rivera were absent. Superintendent Dr. Julious Lawson and Administrative Assistant Kimberly Hall were listed as staff in attendance.
The board first approved the meeting agenda. Ken Fielding moved to approve the agenda and Robert Surano seconded; Fielding, Surano, San Diego and President Taylor voted aye and the motion carried.
President Taylor then asked for a motion to approve the recommendation to appoint Jazmine Crump to fill the vacancy on the board until the next election. Robert Surano moved to appoint Crump and Jacqueline San Diego seconded; the motion carried on a 4-0 roll call. President Taylor administered the Oath of Office to Jazmine Crump, who joined the meeting at 5:03 p.m.
Later in the meeting the board voted to enter closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel and related matters as specified in 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1). Jacqueline San Diego made the motion, which was seconded by Jazmine Crump; the roll call vote was unanimous and the board entered closed session at 5:04 p.m. The board exited closed session at 6:02 p.m. and resumed open session.
There were no public comments recorded during the meeting. With no further business, the board moved to adjourn; a final roll call showed all members present voted in favor and the meeting adjourned at 6:02 p.m.
