The Wicomico County Board of Education voted unanimously to approve the proposed fiscal year 2027 consolidated current expense budget and adopted a pre–Labor Day 2026–27 school calendar during its monthly meeting.
Dr. Reger presented the proposed FY27 budget and described the review timeline: the budget must be submitted to the county by the state‑mandated date (March 15), will be considered by the county executive (public hearing scheduled the following evening) and then forwarded to the county council for additional hearings and approval; the board will take final action on any adjustments at its June 9 meeting.
On the calendar, Mrs. Miles summarized outreach: the district collected 1,554 survey responses about two draft calendars and recommended the pre–Labor Day start for 2026–27. The board voted in favor of the pre–Labor Day option on a roll call vote.
Votes at the meeting: multiple action items passed by roll call with unanimous support. The board recorded aye votes from the named members during each roll call: Mister Palmer, Miss Hazel, Mister Platts, Missus Beecham, Mister Brown, Dr. Ennis and Chair Malone.
What happens next: the approved FY27 proposal will be transmitted to the county executive’s office and become part of the county budget process; the district’s budget team will review any county adjustments and return to the board for final approval in June.
