Fremont County commissioners approve budget amendment adding DUI grant and SRS funds, OK smaller administrative items

Fremont County commissioners voted to approve Resolution 2026-10, a fiscal-year 2025-26 budget amendment that records three adjustments the county said are necessary to close out the year’s accounts.
The motion, moved by Commissioner (speaker 6) and seconded, passed after brief discussion. The resolution adds $34,229 in federal enforcement grant revenue—earmarked for sheriffs DUI/occupant-protection overtime—and recognizes $1,150,000 in Secure Rural Schools (SRS) Title I funds that the treasurer said will be split with local school districts and transferred to the transportation budget. The amendment also transfers $105,000 from the dispatch fund balance into the dispatch depreciation line to reduce the risk of an end-of-year deficit.
The treasurer explained the SRS money is recorded in a forest-reserve account, with Title I and Title III portions tracked separately; the Title I portion will flow through the general fund to transportation and, if unused, into a road-and-bridge balancing account reserved for transportation needs. Commissioners asked how the additional funds would affect next years budget and were told the SRS receipts post as current-year revenues and that any excess in transportation will move to the road/bridge balancing account rather than the unrestricted general fund.
In related actions, the board also moved and passed a motion to set a budget hearing for a museum foundation grant and approved advertising to rehire a full-time benefited felony legal secretary for the Riverton office (salary up to $53,000) with details to be finalized in the budget process.
The board recorded the motions and announced the votes on the record; the resolution and other procedural approvals are effective as entered and will be reflected in the countys FY25-26 accounting records.
The commission indicated any further transfers or new hearings related to transportation balancing or dispatch funding may be scheduled later in the fiscal year.
