Scott Hohen, the clerk‑recorder, told the board Nevada law requires one justice of the peace per 30,000 residents and that the governor had recently certified the demographer’s October 1 report, making the city eligible for the additional judicial office. Hohen said the usual judicial filing period in January had passed and recommended aligning the new judicial filing period with the state and local filing window in March.
A supervisor noted a clerical error in the resolution's first two “whereas” clauses and asked that the statutory citation be corrected from NRS 4.01 to NRS 4.02; the correction was entered on the record. The mayor moved to adopt Resolution 2026‑R‑5 with the amendment; a second was recorded and the motion passed unanimously.
Board members offered no public comment on the item. The resolution establishes the filing period; the county clerk’s office will publish filing dates and related instructions once the calendar is finalized.
