Board approves $360,911 in community grants, one supervisor abstains

Yesenia Pacheco, the city's grants administrator, told the board the application-review work group recommended $77,791 for competitive CSSG adult and youth programs, $163,120 for noncompetitive continuation awards in the final year of five-year cycles, and $120,000 for the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada, for a total of $360,911.
During discussion the mayor proposed removing a $500 line item for grant-writing training in the Fish Low-Income Dental Program and reallocating that $500 to direct dental services; the board accepted that change on the record. Supervisor Geomey disclosed a conflict of interest under NRS 281.420, noting volunteer roles with RSVP and Advocates to End Domestic Violence and employment at Nevada Health Centers, and she abstained from the vote on awards where those relationships applied. The clerk recorded the vote as four yes, zero no, and one abstention.
Supervisor Schutte moved to adopt the resolution and Supervisor Horton seconded; the motion passed. The board thanked Watson's grants staff and local nonprofits for their service.
Next steps: staff will finalize award agreements and disbursements and implement monitoring as required by the grant program.
