Denver City Council used part of its March 16 meeting to adopt two proclamations: one honoring Dr. Gregory Laberge for his service as director of the Denver Crime Laboratory and another recognizing SGI USA’s youth dialogue and local cherry‑tree planting efforts.
Councilmember Flynn read Proclamation 26‑0331 highlighting Dr. Laberge’s career, noting his tenure as director and the lab’s role in solving violent crimes and supporting victims. The proclamation recounted Laberge’s scientific background and the lab’s development of forensic programs that have been adopted beyond Denver.
Former district attorney Mitch Marcy and others spoke in honor of Laberge, praising the lab’s timely casework and leadership. Marcy noted a major lab project that completed under budget and described Laberge as “committed” to investigative excellence.
The council also adopted Proclamation 26‑0332 recognizing SGI USA and its Denver presence for community dialogue, cultural exchange, and youth engagement, including multi‑decade partnerships on cherry‑tree plantings. SGI USA representatives thanked the council and described youth exchange programs supported by the organization.
Both proclamations were adopted by roll call; the meeting record shows the proclamations were read, discussed briefly, and accepted with council comments of thanks and recognition.
