The Jackson Township Board of Education read a resolution into the record concerning the planned sale of the former Christa McAuliffe Middle School (tax map Block 21301, Lots 16–18). The resolution cites state statutes (NJSA 18:20-5; 18:20-6; 18:20-7), declares the property no longer needed for school purposes and notes the board publicly advertised the property with a required minimum bid of $54,500,000. The board reported receiving a single bid of $25,518,000 on Oct. 15, 2025, which did not meet the advertised minimum.
Under the resolution, the board rejects the lone bid as too low and authorizes the superintendent, business administrator and board attorney to negotiate with interested parties so long as any negotiated sale price is no less than $51,018,000. The resolution states a negotiated sale would be subject to a contract prepared by the board attorney and return to the Board of Education for review and approval at a future public meeting, as required by law. The item was read and added to the finance agenda as "finance motion number 10." Board members approved adding the resolution to the agenda by roll-call vote; further action on the sale — including a final contract or adoption of an ordinance approving the sale — would occur at a subsequent public meeting.
