The Oak Grove School District board on Jan. 16 affirmed procedures to fill the Area 3 trustee vacancy and appointed a two-member subcommittee to vet applicants and finalize interview materials.
Superintendent Chaitis said trustee Jorge Pacheco Jr. submitted his resignation effective Dec. 18 after taking another public position; staff recommended a provisional appointment process and formation of a two-member board subcommittee to validate eligibility, design the candidate information sheet, and craft interview questions. Member Martinez and Member Torres volunteered and the board voted to appoint them to the subcommittee.
Later in the meeting the board considered an action (Resolution 1493-0125) under California Education Code section 35120(c) to authorize payment to a board member absent at the Dec. 12 meeting due to illness or emergency. Roll call showed two trustees abstained and two voted aye; the motion failed and no payment authorization was approved.
The board’s appointment motion carried by roll call; the superintendent and staff will work with the subcommittee on next steps and candidate materials.
