Commission approves $34,375 in 2025 accounts charge-offs

The East Grand Forks City Water and Lake Commission voted March 18 to approve and sign the 2025 accounts charge-off report, which staff described during the meeting as $34,375 for city, water and light accounts (not including amounts assessed as tax liens).
Bree, speaking for finance, reviewed the packet’s list of charged-off accounts and explained that some charged amounts are later recovered through collections or when assessed as tax liens on property. “Usually when we turn it over, I bet it’s anywhere between 1 and 3 years later by the time we actually get those paid back to us through the county,” Bree said, noting recent recoveries and collection fees.
The commission moved and seconded approval and the clerk recorded a unanimous roll-call vote in favor.
Staff asked commissioners to sign the report for auditor files; Bree said staff will keep the signed documentation in city files for auditors’ review.
