Cramerton approves interlocal agreement with Gaston County for fire inspections, shifting billing to property owners

The board approved an interlocal agreement with Gaston County that will have the county perform mandated fire inspections and bill owners directly starting Jan. 1, 2022, removing an annual $6,300 town expense.
The Board of Commissioners on Oct. 7 approved an interlocal agreement with the Gaston County Office of Emergency Management and Fire Services under which the county will conduct state-mandated fire inspections and, beginning Jan. 1, 2022, bill the owner or occupant directly for inspections.
Commissioner Abernathy moved to approve the agreement and Commissioner Neeley seconded; the vote was 5-0. Town staff said the change will eliminate the Town's annual $6,300 cost for those inspections.
The agreement formalizes county billing for mandated inspections; staff did not report any service interruptions were expected as a result of the change.
