Greenland's police chief told the Board of Selectmen on May 5 that the department has taken delivery of three portable solar radar speed signs and is preparing to install them at locally maintained road segments.
"We have them. They're in the salvy port... they're bigger and heavier than we expected," the chief said, and noted the department is acquiring suitable posts and plans to place signs where data indicate higher speeds or complaints. The chief identified Bayside and a Portsmouth Avenue location (the town side between Newington Road and the Portsmouth line) as likely deployment sites and said the signs are movable and considered temporary.
Board members asked about power and placement. The chief confirmed the units are solar powered and that placement on state‑owned roads can require additional approvals, so deployment will focus on town roads. The signs are expected to be relocated as needed for targeted enforcement and community messaging.
Next steps: police will finalize post procurement and staging plans, then inform the board of deployment locations and schedules.
