Charlie Skidmore, a Keller Williams realtor and market-center events chairman, asked the Parks Board for permission to hold a community-focused 5K 'costume run' in October to benefit local KW Cares activities.
“I’m Charlie Skidmore. I am a realtor with Keller Williams Realty...we want to put together an event that is gonna be community related,” Skidmore said, explaining funds would cover event costs and any surplus would go to a local nonprofit. He said the preferred date is October 10 and suggested a route that would use Mary’s Magical Place and Drakes Creek to avoid soccer fields.
Parks staff urged coordination for off-duty police to manage a roadway crossing and recommended avoiding masks or fake weapons in costumes. Staff noted that national KW Cares is a 501(c)(3) and the local group operates as a local not-for-profit or DBA with a Hendersonville address. After discussion about logistics and timing, a motion to approve the event was made and seconded; the board voted in favor.
Staff asked the organizer to work with Natalie and with staff who handle off-duty police hires; they also suggested refining the route if needed to limit impacts to athletic fields and events.
