Robert Adcox asked the Hendersonville Parks Board on March 23 to lift an indefinite suspension that has kept him from attending youth games and watching his grandson play.
“I was banned from the parks before I was found guilty,” Adcox said, arguing he pleaded to a lesser charge but that video evidence does not show him with a knife. He said the suspension has cost him about $8,000 and a year and a half without his grandson at games.
Board members and staff reviewed the packet and the police report provided to the board. Parks staff said Adcox received the same packet the board had and that the letter shows his suspension is indefinite but that he may return with new documentation. Parks staff explained that the decision could be reconsidered if Adcox can produce evidence clearing him, a change in legal status, or other documentation.
Several board members expressed concern that the police report included threats, which weighs against immediate reinstatement. One member said, “In my mind, until it's proven, I don't think we should vote on it,” and moved that the board not approve reinstatement at this time. The motion was seconded and carried; board members invited Adcox to return with affidavits or other evidence that might support a future appeal.
The board did not take formal disciplinary action beyond keeping the suspension in place; members characterized the outcome as a postponement until additional proof is provided or legal circumstances change. Parks staff said Adcox may come back to a future meeting with documentation; no date was set for reconsideration.
