Elko County approves labor agreement with Operating Engineers Local 3 for dispatch center staff

County staff described an initial labor agreement between Elko County and the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 3 for employees at the county regional communication center. The proposed term is July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2027.
Staff said the county honored the remaining year of the prior Central Dispatch Administrative Authority agreement when it assumed operations and has worked with the union for nearly two years to negotiate terms that align the dispatch employees with the county’s compensation system and personnel policies. The staff presentation said much of the prior agreement was preserved while integrating employees into the county’s class and compensation structure.
Phil Herring, representing the Operating Engineers, spoke in support of the agreement and thanked staff for the negotiations. Commissioners moved and approved the initial labor agreement by voice vote.
According to the record, the change formalizes the dispatch employees’ status as county employees and aligns their compensation and benefits with county practice.
