Elko County renews interlocal agreement to continue Medicaid reimbursement for ambulance transports

Elko County commissioners voted on April 1 to renew an interlocal agreement with the Nevada Health Authority (Nevada Medicaid) that enables the county ambulance service to participate in the Medicaid certified public expenditures program.
Chris McCann, chief of Elko County Ambulance Service, said the renewal continues a program the county first joined in 2016 that reimburses public agencies for a portion of the difference when Medicaid payments fall short of actual transport costs. The contract term discussed covers July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2030, and the county must renew to remain eligible for the supplemental reimbursements.
McCann described the annual report process the ambulance service uses to document actual costs and said the reimbursement has been valuable to offsetting service expenses. A commissioner moved to approve the renewal, a second was recorded and the board approved the contract by voice vote.
The renewal preserves Elko County Ambulance Service participation in a Medicaid program designed to offset shortfalls between Medicaid rates and the true cost of emergency ground transport for public agencies.
