Board adopts My Perspectives for grades 6–12 and approves world language resources for six-year cycle

Janet Brosmer, the district’s curriculum coordinator, presented the committee-advisory-team (CAT) review and recommended adoption of 6–12 English language arts materials and 9–12 world language resources for the Vigo County School Corp.

Brosmer said the CAT previewed materials from multiple publishers that appear on the Indiana Department of Education high-quality curricular materials lists and held publisher preview sessions at the Administration Building. The CAT met in March to review and reach consensus; the recommended ELA program for both middle and high school is My Perspectives by Savvas. Brosmer described the program as standards-aligned, with print and digital resources, and organized around thematic units with integrated literacy tasks.

For world languages, Brosmer said the CAT recommended programs from multiple publishers (Lingco, Wayside, Cambridge University Press, and others) following presentations and discipline-level consensus. Board members asked questions about how the programs addressed standards and how the district reviewed essential standards; Brosmer said the CAT examined state review lists and teachers evaluated how standards and instruction were addressed.

A motion to approve adoption of the recommended materials for a six-year cycle beginning in 2026 was made and seconded; the chair called the vote and the motion passed. Brosmer noted parent/guardian preview sessions were held and that some disciplines required additional time to reach a consensus during evaluation.

Why it matters: Adopting district-wide instructional materials sets the resources teachers will use across a multi-year cycle and affects curriculum alignment, professional development needs and classroom instruction.

What’s next: The adoption begins the six-year cycle in 2026; the district will post materials and continue teacher-level implementation planning.
