Hawaii County committee forwards mayor’s slate of nominations to full council

The committee closed the files and sent favorable recommendations for Communications 800–805. The forwarded nominees included a county resident for the Cost of Government Commission, Joshua Onipaʻalu (Communication 801), Robert Yagi to the Board of Ethics (Communication 802), Kapono Kuikahi to the Game Management Advisory Commission (Communication 803), Paul Montz to the Windward Planning Commission (Communication 804) and Daniel N. Thomas to the Merit Appeals Board (Communication 805). Vote tallies recorded by the committee were unanimous among members present on each nomination (most recorded as 8 ayes; one motion recorded as 9 in favor after a member joined).
Why it matters: These confirmations fill seats on advisory bodies that shape county oversight, planning, natural-resource management and personnel appeals. Several nominees emphasized local service and community ties; council members pressed nominees on scheduling, relevant experience and priorities for their respective boards.
