Animal welfare board member says board inactive for six months; council assured to address compliance

Camadillo said he had tried to resolve the issue privately with staff through emails and phone calls but that no action followed. "Ordinances are not suggestions, it's the law," he said, asking the council for a clear timeline, a confirmed meeting date, and full activation of the board so it can begin its duties.
Mayor Valdez and staff acknowledged the concern during the meeting and the mayor invited follow-up; council did not immediately take formal action on the item during the meeting, but the comment was captured during the public-comment portion of the agenda and raised accountability questions for the city's board-activation process.
Camadillo said the board's inactivity raises accountability issues and that the public expects the city to follow its own ordinances. The council later moved through other agenda items; staff and council members acknowledged receipt of the comment and indicated staff follow-up would occur.
