Superintendent: Gettysburg leadership trip, 18,245 summer meals served and summer-school graduates

Superintendent Kakeesh and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Brown used the July 23 board meeting to recap summer activities and preview the academic year.
Dr. Brown described a multi-day leadership program in Gettysburg and at CSIS that focused on "leading in four directions," collaboration, resiliency and lessons drawn from historical leadership examples. "The best way to change the future is to invent it," Dr. Brown said, summarizing a CSIS quote the group discussed.
Superintendent Kakeesh reported the district has served 18,245 total summer meals so far and that the summer program and summer school served approximately 1,950 students; about 900 high‑school students participated in credit‑recovery opportunities. He noted that several students were able to meet graduation requirements as a result of summer instruction.
Kakeesh also reviewed upcoming dates: the next board meeting on Aug. 6, a staff welcome‑back rally on Aug. 7 at the high school gym, and the first day of school on Aug. 8.
Board members thanked summer staff and district employees for their work preparing campuses and supporting students through summer programs.
