Board member Keith Acton asked the board to tighten parameters around sponsorships for school-sponsored organizations (SSOs) to reduce ambiguity and potential conflicts and to provide clearer guidance for fundraising. "The main goal here is obviously to make sure that we are correctly raising a lot of money for our SSOs and have some guidance to provide them, so there's not any ambiguity," Acton said. Members discussed aligning language with comptroller expectations and existing agreements, and Chair Laura Harrison asked administration to work with Mr. Acton on proposed policy language for the May meeting.
No final policy was adopted; the board directed administration to return with a draft policy and recommended baseline language at the next meeting.
Separately, the board amended its calendar to cancel the May 4 work session (the night before graduation) and to retain the May 11 business meeting. The motion to cancel May 4 was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote; the chair cited concerns about quorum conflicts because of graduation and related family commitments.
What happens next: Administration will collaborate with Mr. Acton to produce proposed SSO sponsorship parameters for the May agenda. The calendar amendment is effective immediately and will be reflected in the board’s posted schedule.
