Lakeland board adopts new wellness, computer science and STEM textbooks

The Lakeland School Board approved the textbook-adoption committee’s recommendations for the current adoption cycle.
Deputy Superintendent Doctor Deloso and academic directors summarized the committee process and said teachers participated and signed the required documentation. The board approved adopting and purchasing the wellness textbook (a Lifetime Wellness classroom set with digital access), adopting and purchasing a limited number of computer-science texts, and adopting (but deferring a purchase decision on) the STEM textbook that is on the state-approved list. "Most of these only had one or two choices," Deloso said, adding that the adoption followed the state process and teacher review.
The board moved, seconded and approved the committee’s recommendations by voice vote; administrators thanked participating teachers and committee members for their work.
What happens next: The district will proceed with purchases for the wellness classroom sets and a small number of computer-science texts; STEM materials will continue to be supported through project-based supplies and grant-funded resources as described by administrators.
