The Lakeland School Board voted to accept the 06/30/2025 external audit and received its monthly financial report.
Clark Province of Watkins UBRA presented the audit and said the firm had issued an unmodified opinion. "We did issue an unmodified opinion — that's a clean opinion," Province said, and noted only a small number of findings tied to accounting transitions that the finance team has addressed. Province added that none of the district's federal grant programs were subject to compliance audit this year.
Gateley Sweat, who presented the reconciled spending through February 2026, said year-to-date general-fund spending was roughly where the board would expect at the eighth month of the fiscal year (about 67 percent). Sweat highlighted several fund-level variances: special education at about 56 percent (driven by attrition and higher-budgeted positions), vocational programs at about 31 percent (timing tied to a multi-year grant), technology at about 72 percent (prepaid annual contracts and the timing of insurance payments), and transportation at about 50 percent (lower billing for several inclement-weather days and timing of extended-school-year costs).
Chair Laura Harrison moved to accept the audit; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote with no opposing voice recorded on the meeting audio. Board members thanked province, Sweat and finance staff for their work during the transition and for preparing the materials that supported the audit.
The board did not record a roll-call vote on the public transcript; acceptance was recorded as a voice vote. Administration said it will follow up with any additional clarifications the board requests and will bring any further items related to audit findings back to the board if needed.
What happens next: The board accepted the audit and will monitor the implementation of the minor findings described by the external auditor and the financial variances identified in the monthly report.
