Scott, the library director, updated trustees on programming and patron conduct, calling the recent "1 Book, 1 Town" effort a high point and reporting unusually busy VITA tax-assistance sessions while also flagging a rise in challenging patron behavior.
"It really was my favorite so far since I've been here," Scott said of the 1 Book program, noting about 80 people attended one follow-up session and approximately 60 attended a concurrent program at a nearby venue. He credited staff and volunteer event chairs for the turnout.
Scott said the library has "had a lot of weird incidents in March leading into this month with patrons and patron behavior," praised staff for handling difficult encounters, and said management will "tighten up the rules a little bit" in response. Trustees discussed coordination with other area libraries to ensure consistent card and circulation practices and suggested a one-page policy reminder for front-line staff to use when enforcing rules.
Scott also said the architects' contract for the Woods project is signed and that a preliminary meeting with architects and focus groups is scheduled for the 14th of the month; an art-commission reception tied to library programming is planned in early May.
