The Barnstable County Finance Committee voted to recommend a $155,000 transfer ordinance that would allow the county to finish work on a regional burn building and use an existing $100,000 state earmark before it expires.
Administrator Ed Dutton described the remaining construction and systems work and gave a conservative completion estimate of about $252,000. He said a $100,000 earmark from the state Division of Fire Services is available for work completed before the end of the fiscal year, and delaying the project could add roughly $50,000 to $55,000 in extra cost. "The burn building to complete ... is going to run us, about $252,000. . . We do have a $100,000 earmark to be used before the end of this fiscal year," Dutton said.
Director Coppola explained that $100,000 would come from the earmark and an additional $55,000 from miscellaneous/contingency to support completion. Committee members agreed to recommend the transfer ordinance to the full assembly so the contractor and specialist vendors can finish installations and turn the facility over for firefighter training. The committee approved the recommendation on a 5-0 roll call.
