School committee approves donations, contracts and student travel; authorizes cafeteria tray wash project

Committee accepted a $1,025 donation for a high-school guitar amplifier and a $1,014 donation from the HPTO for middle-school jazz-band equipment. "We are grateful for the donation," a committee member said.
The committee authorized using the cafeteria revolving account to install tray-wash machines at the high school, a project estimated by administration at approximately $525,000. Administration said the revolving account is reimbursed through student lunch reimbursements and a la carte sales and covers the full cost. "This project will eliminate the use of disposable trays," administration stated.
The committee approved a flooring contract with Atkinson Carpet and Flooring for $67,888 to replace flooring in 10 middle-school classrooms; asbestos remediation will be required for those rooms and the FY27 budget contains a $100,000 allocation for the broader project.
Final intent-to-travel approvals were granted for the BPA national conference in Nashville (May 6–10, 2026) with 22 students attending, and for two high-school robotics teams to attend the VEX World Championships in St. Louis (April 2026) with about 8–12 students. Committee members congratulated the students and advisers and approved items listed by consensus to close the meeting.
