The Nemaha County Board of Commissioners on April 8 appointed Keith Kollasch of Auburn as the county’s public defender and approved several routine permits and a nondiscrimination plan for county veterans transportation.
Chairman Michael Weiss moved to approve the application from Kollasch; Mike Hall seconded the motion and the board voted unanimously to approve the appointment. Commissioners said the county will sign a contract with Kollasch and finalize the details at the April 22 meeting.
The board also approved three right-of-way permit applications: OPPD ROW 2026-04 at 72218 628 Avenue, OPPD ROW 2026-05 at 637 Avenue and 720 Road, and Pinpoint ROW 2026-06 covering various locations in Nemaha County. Each permit was approved by roll-call vote with Hall, Mellage and Weiss voting aye.
Separately, the board approved and signed the Federal Transit Administration Title VI Program for the Veterans Service Office related to handicapped-van usage. The motion to adopt the Title VI plan was made by Commissioner Bryan Mellage, seconded by Mike Hall and carried unanimously.
Those actions were recorded in the minutes and will be reflected in contract documents and permit files. The county clerk presented the motions and recorded the roll-call votes.
